My name is Marissa Lluch Martinez and it is an honor to be your counselor this year. My first experience in professional education occurred when I was still a student. I was studying Sociology at UC San Diego and a few times a week, I served as an aide in a first grade classroom at Doyle Elementary School. Within that year, I found myself driving to high schools in San Diego County to tutor high school students. Soon, I took on a third job as a conversation leader to help our international students become more fluent in English. So naturally after graduation, I enrolled myself in a credentialing program at Azusa Pacific University and took my first job teaching 4th graders in Whittier. In 2014, I pursued another credential and degree so that I could become a counselor.
Outside of school, I still enjoy learning! Everything I do, whether it be to try a new restaurant or travel to a new city, is based in my love of learning new things. Mostly, I like to learn how delicious a restaurant is ;) When I'm not out experiencing food, travel, friends, or family, I'm typically relaxing at home with my husband and two children. We enjoy our rare chances to do nothing together.
I thank you for the opportunity to be your counselor. It really is an honor to know you, the students and families of Nogales High School.
